One St. Catharines man discovered that realizing you have won a lottery can make you a little tardy for a family dinner.

When Vincent Wong, 55, realized he had matched the last six of seven ENCORE numbers in exact order in the Dec. 24 LOTTO 6/49 draw winning $100,000, he had to call his family to say he’d be a little late for a Boxing Day dinner.

“I was on my way to meet my family for dinner when I stopped at the convenience store to check my ticket. I didn’t believe it when I saw I won $100,000. I called my family to let them know I would be a little late,” Wong shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings.

He says this is his first big win after playing the lottery for over 25 years. “This is the best investment I have ever made,” he laughed.

When his family found out why he was late, they were quick to forgive. “I shared the news with my family when I finally made it to dinner and they were so happy for me. It’s an unbelievable experience!”

He plans to pay some bills, help his family and take a trip to Europe.

The winning ticket was purchased at Avondale on Facer Street in St. Catharines.
