Niagara police say a St. Catharines secondary school teacher is facing sexual assault charges after allegedly touching a student inappropriately.

Police say that in January, officers were called to investigate an alleged assault involving a teacher and student at Governor Simcoe Secondary School (located at 15 Glenview Ave.).

Police say the District School Board of Niagara cooperated with the investigation.

The teacher, St. Catharines man David Michael Cockburn, 46, has been suspended by the school board.

He was arrested on April 13 and charged with sexual assault and sexual exploitation.

Detectives believe there might be additional victims.

The accused is being held for a bail hearing on April 14.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the lead investigator by dialling 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009504.
