Students and teachers at Holy Cross Secondary School in St. Catharines got an unexpected second Family Day today (March 7) as they awoke to news that the school’s basement had flooded.

The basement to the school at 460 Linwell Road is apparently flooded, knocking out the power and heat to the building.

A message on the Niagara Catholic District School Board (NCDSB) alerted students this morning.

It noted, “Teachers will connect with students this morning through the NCVLE (the district’s online module) to provide asynchronous work” and advised student to check the site throughout the day.

The NCDSB gave no further details on the flooding or an estimated clean-up time though it’s expected to update parents this afternoon.
