A 68-year-old grandfather from St. Catharines plans on using the $100,000 he won from ENCORE on the November 3 LOTTO 6/49 draw to go overseas.

Belay Mekbeb matched the last six of seven ENCORE numbers in exact order to win $100,000.

Mekbeb said he always plays the ENCORE numbers, adding, “I used the ticket checker and couldn’t believe my eyes. I had to take it to another store to make sure. I have been playing for so long and I’m so happy.”

Surprisingly, he has kept mum about his big win. “I can’t wait for everyone to get their own surprise when they learn about my win in the newspaper!”

And his plans are mostly around overseas travel. “I’m going to invest it and I will treat myself to travel when it’s safer. I’d like to explore the Middle East and Africa.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Gateway Newstands on Yonge Street in Toronto.
