As well as the recent addition of Sunday hours, the downtown St Catharines pedestrian-only area has had extra hours added to both Fridays and Saturdays.

The city will now cordon off St Paul Street from William Street to Carlisle Street from 4 to 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, as well as the Sunday 11 am to 6 pm hours.

With the city moving into Step Three of the Province’s reopening plan and 50 per cent indoor capacity for restaurants, the demand was so high that downtown Councillor Mat Siscoe had to push for the increased hours.

By having the entire street blocked off from traffic during those times, it also means restaurants can greatly extend their patio to the sidewalk’s edge since the public has the entire street to stroll along. Sidewalks mean literally nothing when you’re not dodging cars.

At the moment, the St Paul Street closure will run until October 10. However, should businesses on the street want an extension, the City has already said they would be open to it.
