In what appears to be a random act of violence, a downtown St. Catharines barbershop had its front windows shot out this morning (October 26) during the wee hours.

Niagara Police were called to Hourglass Barbershop at 5 James St. this morning at 7:50 am when a City of St. Catharines employee noticed the damage.

The window had apparently been shot “multiple times” and investigators put the time of the shooting at roughly 4:30 am based on CCTV footage.

Since the store closed at 7 pm last night and didn’t reopen until 11 am this morning, no one was injured in the gunplay.

However, due to CCTV footage, the police do have a suspect car in the shooting. It is described as an SUV newer model (possibly a Lexus), red with four doors.

The police say it was last seen headed towards the Westchester Avenue and St. Paul Street area at the edge of downtown St. Catharines.

Police are asking area residents and business owners to review their CCTV footage and contact the lead detective at 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009628 with any relevant information.
