If you spent some time at Square One this past Black Friday weekend, you know it can be difficult to find parking at the sprawling, ever-growing shopping centre.

While Black Friday events are drawing to a close, the holidays are in full swing and shoppers will continue to converge upon the mall in astounding numbers to purchase gifts for loved ones (and a few choice items for themselves for upcoming holiday and New Year’s Eve parties).

While navigating crowded malls is hard enough, finding parking is an equally difficult struggle. For that reason, Square One launched an interactive, mobile-friendly real-time parking map on its website that points shoppers to the least congested lots the mall has to offer at any given time.

Parking is always a big topic of conversation this time of year,” says Toni Holley, marketing director with Square One. “We have an interactive parking map on website that tells you in real time what parking spots are available.”

Square One boasts 10 entrances and eight different lots.

If you take a look at this map on your PC or phone, you can see which lots are 39 per cent or less full (green), 40-79 per cent full (yellow) and 80-100 per cent full (red).

“We’re all creatures of habit and people normally come though same entrance, but there are 10 access points to the shopping centre and we’ll tell you the best route to take that might be less congested.”

If you don’t want to park your own vehicle (or you just want to feel extra fabulous), you can use the mall’s valet system. If you’re interested in luxury, note that valet service is available in the north section near entrance 7 (everyday curbside service) and in the south end near entrance 3. South valet features curbside service from Friday to Sunday and a swanky valet lounge within underground P4. You can actually have valet pick you up and take you to your car vehicle from anywhere.

“Our valet program here is most comprehensive in Canada. You can park at any valet areas, and be dropped off and picked up at various locations,” says Holley. “You don’t have to drop off your car and be picked up in same location. We have a valet lounge with complimentary wi-fi and beverages. We have climate controlled parking.”

Happy shopping (and parking), everyone!
