A Burlington driver has been pulled off the road for going almost double the speed limit.

According to Halton police, the driver was clocked going 90 km/h in a 50 km/h zone this morning (June 5) on Maple Avenue in a community safety zone.

Community safety zones are established in areas to protect vulnerable road users such as children, seniors, pedestrians, cyclists and other non-motorized users and are usually placed near schools, playgrounds and community centres. Drivers are encouraged to comply with posted speed limits by having their fines doubled.

In today’s incident, the driver was also charged with having an illegal amount of window tint.

The person now faces a 30-day driver’s license suspension and will have their vehicle impounded for 14 days.

They have been issued a court day to respond to charges of stunt driving.
