Special weather statement warns Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Halton of icy roads tonight

Environment Canada is warning motorists and others in Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton and Halton to be careful tonight as plummeting temperatures will make highways, roads, walkways and parking lots icy and slippery.
The government agency issued a special weather statement earlier today for those areas, saying the dramatic temperature change could cause dangerous conditions for both driving and walking.
“Above-freezing temperatures have spread across southern Ontario this morning and highs today are expected to be in the low-to-mid single digits,” the weather statement reads. “Late this afternoon, a cold front will push through the region which will cause temperatures to abruptly drop below freezing in time for the evening commute.”
Environment Canada urges people to continue to monitor any weather alerts.
The weather statement comes two days after an historic winter storm dumped anywhere from 30 to 55cm of snow on most parts of southern Ontario.
Also, keep an eye on the potential for some black ice tonight to develop on untreated surfaces. This drop in temperature isn’t expected to be so fast that it will result in what we call a ‘flash freeze’ but it could still be an issue with all the snow.
