Special weather statement issued for Hamilton as temperatures expected to plunge

A special weather statement has been issued for Hamilton on Wednesday (Jan. 19) as the morning’s above-freezing temperatures are expected to drop quickly in the afternoon.

According to Environment Canada, Wednesday’s temperature highs are expected to reach low to mid-single digits but by late afternoon, that will change as a cold front pushes through the area.

Temperatures are expected to abruptly drop below freezing just in time for the evening commute, the weather agency said.

The quick drop in temperature could result in surfaces, such as highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots, becoming icy and very slippery.

Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution.
