Special weather statement issued for Hamilton as rain moves in

A special weather statement has been issued for Hamilton on Thursday (July 8) as showers and thunderstorms are expected to result in heavy rainfall locally.

According to Environment Canada, showers and thunderstorms are expected to move across the area on Thursday, with some capable of producing locally heavy rainfall amounts of 30 to 50 mm.

Isolated amounts of 50 mm will also be possible in some locations, the weather agency said in the statement.

Temperatures will remain somewhat cooler throughout the day, with a high of 18 expected.

Showers will taper off near midnight with fog patches developing early Friday.
