Heavy rain lifts manhole covers as warning issued for drivers in Mississauga and Brampton

Environment Canada has placed much of Ontario under a weather alert due to the possibility of severe rains tonight.

The alert came out on the evening of March 7 predicting heavy rain for that evening and the following morning. The Environment Canada sensors indicate a low-pressure system will come into the province tonight.

This system will come in from the west and move eastward throughout the evening. However, Environment Canada is unsure just how much rain will fall.

As a result of the unpredictability of the system, some regions may be placed under a rainfall warning later on. The rain will turn to snow in the early morning as a cold front moves in to chill the air.

The alert extends throughout southern Ontario and the GTA all the way north to the coast of James Bay. It like wise extends far south to Windsor and includes a large swath of Quebec.
