Special weather statement for Hamilton warns of high winds today

Hamilton residents will need to batten down the hatches on Wednesday (Jan. 5) as a weather system moving through the area is expected to bring high winds.

A cold front moving through southern Ontario is likely to produce strong winds from the southwest, gusting between 70 and 80 km/h starting in the afternoon and into the evening.

The event has prompted Environment Canada to issue a special weather statement for the City of Hamilton warning residents that power outages are possible.

The agency also warns that winds this strong are capable of tossing loose objects and breaking tree branches.
