Square One Shopping Centre is an integral part of the Mississauga community and is a destination for those looking to both shop for the latest products and celebrate important cultural events.

Right now, shoppers can escape the winter doldrums and celebrate the Lunar New Year at the vast shopping centre. Not only can guests enjoy a gorgeous art installation, but they can also receive a special gift card

From now until Feb. 6, shoppers can commemorate The Year of the Rat by strolling beneath the stunning art installation in the Grand Rotunda, located on the shopping centre’s Upper Level by Entrance 3.

Inspired by the tradition of red papers (fai chun) and the beauty of long scrolls, the exhibit features calligraphy written in lucky Chinese phrases on enlarged fabric scrolls strung from above.

Not only is the installation itself beautiful, the promotions that go along with it are just as enticing.

From now until Feb. 2, guests can receive a 5% bonus gift card when they purchase $200 or more in Square One Gift Cards.

Foodies and dance lovers will also be delighted to hear that they can celebrate Lunar New Year at Holt Renfew and The Food District.

On Saturday, Jan. 25, shoppers can join Holt Renfrew Square One for a thrilling, traditional lion dance to celebrate The Year of the Rat. The event will run from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. A live drummer, cymbalist, and gongist will also be on hand to celebrate–so be sure to catch them traveling throughout the Grand Rotunda and Holt Renfrew.

Did you know that Lunar New Year is frequently celebrated in China with a tea ceremony? The tea and sweet treats are thought to help sweeten the year ahead–and you can get the year off to a great start with your own tea-infused fun.

On Sunday, Jan. 26, tea lovers can check out the Lunar New Year Class: Traditional Tea-Rrifiic Tasting at Tao Tea Leaf in The Food District.

The event, which will take place from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm, invites guests to join Tao himself in ringing in the Lunar New Year with a traditional tea tasting social. Guests can visit The District Kitchen to socialize, try new teas, enjoy traditional Chinese desserts, and celebrate the Lunar New Year.

As a Certificated Tea Sommelier, Tao will share his useful knowledge which he has gained over many years of experiencing the various kinds of tea.

Guests will also learn about the health benefits of various teas and how to prepare tea with a basic teapot.

Tickets are $15 for single guests and $25 for couples or doubles.

Other stores are also offering Lunar New Year promotions, including Coach (from now until Feb. 10), Michael Kors (from now until Jan. 26), Michael Hill (from now until Feb. 16), Armani Exchange (from now until Jan. 29), Sephora (from now until Feb. 7) and more.
