A new scam is using the name of a well-known gas utility company to leave letters at homes in Ontario, tricking residents into sharing personal information.
Enbridge says the letters, which have been dropped off at homes, claim that the utility company will be conducting a gas meter and pipeline inspection. The notices appear official, but the phone number provided does not belong to Enbridge.
According to enbridgegas.com, when homeowners call, they receive a follow-up text asking for personal details, which scammers then exploit for malicious purposes.
Enbridge Gas stresses that real inspection notices arrive by mail and reference authorized contractors such as GTEL or Hetek, including proper contact information. The company does not request personal or banking details by text message.

This isn’t the first time fraudsters have targeted Enbridge customers. The company has previously warned about:
- Fake websites and phone calls — scammers pose as call centre agents and ask for credit card or account details, claiming they can apply bill discounts.
- Social media ads and emails — posts offering free thermostats, rebates, or energy kits are being used to lure customers into providing personal details.
- Spoofed numbers and robocalls — calls may look like they’re from Enbridge but demand immediate payment, which the company says is always a red flag.
Enbridge is reminding customers to avoid clicking on links, scanning QR codes, or calling numbers found in online ads. Instead, customers should only use the official website (enbridgegas.com) or its customer service line at 1-877-362-7434.
Residents who believe they’ve been targeted are urged to report the scam to Enbridge Gas, their local police, or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
