Have you gotten a text scam like this recently?

Some residents have reported getting a text from Scotiabank which asks them to follow a link to secure their account.

The message looks something like this (number blacked out):

The text is a scam — Scotiabank says they will never send unsolicited emails or text messages asking for confidential information (such as your password, PIN, access code, credit card and account numbers) or asking you to validate or restore your account.

“If you think you’ve been targeted by cybercriminals or notice something odd the next time you’re banking, please call us immediately at 1-800-4-SCOTIA (1-800-472-6842). Don’t wait until the next business day,” the bank warns.

Scotiabank users aren’t the only targets, as banks in general are regularly used by scammers to attempt to get vulnerable information from residents.

More tips on how to avoid being scammed are available at the bank’s website.
