While it wasn’t a day when they were permitted, some Brampton residents reported hearing fireworks on Thursday night (November 26).

“Why are people setting off fireworks today?” Reddit user u/aimbotdotcom posted on the Brampton subreddit page. “What reason is there for fireworks? It’s so damn annoying.”

User u/sodium_intake made a tongue-in-cheek comment suggesting people were celebrating American Thanksgiving, which was on Thursday.

“Celebrating all the amazing deals for Black Friday or the opening of Decathlon, you pick,” they commented on the post.

Several other residents from across the city mentioned hearing fireworks at some point on Thursday, many of whom were confused as to the reason.

Brampton’s by-law permits the use of fireworks without a permit four days out of the year, but with Diwali having passed, the next day they are permitted isn’t until New Year’s Eve.

Additionally, the fireworks that are permitted to be used without a permit must not travel higher than three metres (or 10 feet).
