Many Thorold households and businesses were left in the dark last night and this morning (July 1-2) after power was knocked out of service around 10:45 pm.

While Hydro One hasn’t said what caused the power to go out, heavy rainstorms during this past week throughout the Niagara Region have been causing their usual problems.

Even Thorold City Hall was blacked out, leading them to post on Facebook, “Due to a power and network outage, the City of Thorold phone lines and emails are currently down.”

The power was finally restored to all affected by roughly 10:45 am today.

While Hydro One originally told some customers service would likely resume by 1:15 am this morning, it seems it took a while longer. That left one resident to post on Thorold’s Facebook, “Not sure what the delay is. It’s not 1920, do we need to channel Benjamin Franklin’s spirit to fix this?”
