A new restaurant coming to Hamilton specializes in a fast food-inspired treat that isn’t heavy on meat or on the chequing account.

Hotties Smashburgers, an Etobicoke eatery, will be expanding to the Barton Village area in the new year. Its distinctive hot-pink signage is up outside of 659 Barton St. E., near Hendry’s Barbershop and a just around the corner from the Playhouse Cinema on Sherman Ave. N.

For the uninitiated, 12 Tomatoes calls a smash burger the “complete antithesis of the stereotypical medium-rare, meat-heavy patties delivered on home grills, in bars, restaurants, and fast food joints… Instead of letting a big, fat burger lay on the grill to cook, you add the burger meat to a piping hot skillet or griddle and smash it as it cooks for the first few seconds. The heat plus pressure combo results in a crispy textured, well-browned burger that cooks in moments.”

The price range for Hotties’ burgers range from $7 to $14, starting with a single of the eponymous Hottie which is topped with cheese, grilled onion, lettuce, pickles, tomato and a house sauce. A plant-based double Impossible Hottie will run $14.

Loaded options for fries, such as chili cheese fries, are advertised for $8.

Further information about the restaurant may be obtained at hottiessmashburgers.com.
