Conservation Halton is planning a prescribed slow burn at Oakville’s Glenorchy Conservation Area.

The two sites scheduled to be burned in the next few weeks are located north of Palermo Park and the Oakville  Trafalgar Memorial Hospital on Dundas St. W. and just east of Bronte Rd.

A prescribed burn is a low-severity fire that is carefully planned and highly controlled to remove invasive plants and provide the disturbance that many plants need to grow.

“During the next few weeks, Conservation Halton staff will monitor Glenorchy Conservation Area, and when conditions are suitable, 48-hour notice will be provided to partners and the media,” Conservation Halton said on Twitter.

“Smoke might be visible in the area, but is not expected to disturb surrounding communities.”
