Sledgehammer attack on bar leads to charges for St. Catharines man

A 36-year-old St. Catharines man has been arrested for allegedly causing damage at a Thorold bar with a sledgehammer on Monday (August 5).

Niagara Falls Regional Police arrived at Harry’s New York Bar located at 1 Front Street South around 1:10 a.m. after receiving a call about a person who was in the process of causing property damage.

After further investigation, police discovered that two patrons were asked to leave the establishment at around 11 p.m. “for causing a disturbance.”

“One of the two patrons returned to the bar wearing a ski mask and was armed with a sledgehammer,” said Niagara police. “The patron proceeded to smash several windows of the establishment before he was stopped by citizens and held until police arrived.”

Kyle Crooker, 36, of St. Catharines was arrested has been charged with:

  • Mischief Under $5,000
  • Disguise with Intent

Crooker was released with a promise to return to court and is expected to make an appearance at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse on September 20, 2024.
