Six young people were hospitalized, with two taken to a Toronto trauma centre – with one in life threatening condition – after a collision in Bowmanville Wednesday involving multiple youths.

A woman driving one of the vehicles also required medical treatment.

Police responded to the collision on Longworth Drive east of Bowmanville Avenue just after 11 a.m. Wednesday after a Volkswagen Golf travelling westbound made contact with an eastbound Ford Explorer.

Four youth were taken to local hospital with minor injuries while two others requiring medical attention had to be transported to the trauma centre in Toronto. One of the youths is now in stable condition while the other is still fighting for his life in hospital.

An adult woman driver involved in the accident was treated for minor physical injuries at Bowmanville Hospital.

Members of the Durham Police Collision Investigation Unit were on the scene Wednesday and Longworth between Bowmanville Avenue and Scugog Street was closed for several hours.

The collision is still under investigation.
