Six areas in Mississauga have some of the highest COVID-19 percent positivity in Ontario

Six areas in Mississauga (one more compared to the five areas in the previous week) are among those with the highest COVID-19 percent positivity rates (percentage of positive COVID-19 tests in the area) in Ontario, according to recent data from Toronto-based research group ICES.

ICES listed 50 areas in Ontario with the highest percent positivity rates for the week of January 31 to February 6.

Of the 50 listed, the following are in Mississauga:

L4T at 9.7% (area of Goreway and Morning Star)
11th highest percent positivity neighbourhood in Ontario (36th during previous week)

L5R at 8.2% (area of McLaughlin and Bristol Rd W)
25th highest percent positivity neighbourhood in Ontario (not listed during previous week)

L5W at 8.1% (area of Derry and Mavis)
26th highest percent positivity neighbourhood in Ontario (9th highest during previous week)

L4W at 7.7% (area of Highway 401 and Pearson Airport)
30th highest percent positivity neighbourhood in Ontario (43rd during previous week)

L5A at 7.6% (area of Bloor and Central Pkwy E)
35th highest percent positivity neighbourhood in Ontario (not listed during previous week)

L5C at 7.4% (area of Central Pkwy W and Erindale Station Rd)
38th highest percent positivity neighbourhood in Ontario (not listed during previous week)

Three notable findings

“For all Ontario residents, the overall percent positivity among those tested for COVID-19 during the week of January 31 was 3.1% (versus 4.0% the previous week),” ICES reports.

“The percent positivity was relatively lower among persons living in long-term care homes (1.4%), compared to those not living in long-term care (3.2%).”
