SIU investigating collision in Souther Ontario

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has recently launched an investigation that is looking into a fatal single-vehicle collision that occurred yesterday (July 3) near Springwater Township.

Representatives within Ontario’s SIU are civilian investigators who are called in when members of the public are seriously injured or killed when interacting with regional law enforcement.

As indicated in the SIU report, the collision occurred yesterday afternoon when an OPP officer was traveling south on Crossland Road. Around the time of the incident, the officer was passed by a civilian vehicle exceeding the speed limit within the area.

The officer then engaged in pursuit but lost sight of the vehicle moments later.

The officer then later discovered the vehicle in a field on Crossland Road between Flos Road 11 and the Tiny/Flos Townline Road.

According to the SIU report, the male driver was pronounced dead on the scene and a female on the passenger side was then transported to the nearest hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

One investigator and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case. SIU representatives are urging anyone who has any additional information about this investigation — including video or photos — to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or visit the SIU’s website.
