Peel police officer committed no offence during takedown in Malton

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating after a woman sustained serious injuries from a fall in St. Catharines.

On April 10, the police watchdog said a 54-year-old woman was injured after falling from an overpass on the QEW at Niagara Street on April 9.

According to the SIU, Niagara police were contacted regarding the woman, who was said to be in distress, around 3:35 pm on Sunday.

The woman reportedly fell after a “brief interaction” with police.

The woman was taken to hospital after the fall.

The SIU is urging anyone with any information, including cellphone or dashcam video, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
