The sinkhole that diverted drivers away from a usually busy Burlington street has been repaired.

Traffic has now returned to the stretch of road that was affected on North Shore Boulevard East between Edgewater Crescent and Eagle Drive.

Ward 1 Councillor Kelvin Galbraith reported the reopening through his social media channel today (April 19).

“The majority of repairs are finished from the sinkhole,” said Galbraith. “There is still some minor work to be completed, and this will be done with the road open to traffic. My thanks to staff and the contractors for expediting this emergency road work.”
The sinkhole appeared on March 22 complicating matters for drivers who already had to deal with a snowstorm that day. The cause of the collapsed surface was a culvert that failed allowing water to wash away the soil underneath the road.

The repair job, estimated to cost $500,000, will see the replacement of the culvert and repaving of the road.
