Single-home property to be replaced with 9 houses in Mississauga

A nine-home development proposed to replace a single, detached home in Mississauga got a green light this week.
On Tuesday, Mississauga’s Planning and Development Committee approved the proposal to rezone the property at 120 Fairview Rd. W., south of Square One Shopping Centre. There is one home on the 3614.25-square metre property, which will be demolished.
The change in zoning will allow for nine detached residential homes: six on a public road and three on a common element condominium road, the Planning and Development Committee report states. Five of the homes will be three-bedroom units and four will be four-bedroom units.
But one lot will be vacant for use as a temporary turn-around for vehicles until the abutting property at 130 Fairview Rd. W. redevelops and can complete the ultimate common element road configuration, the report states.
Renderings of the proposed homes show modern, box-style houses.
Staff support the project but one resident had concerns.
The son of homeowners who have lived adjacent to the subject property for over 35 years expressed concerns about the condominium road and said the family would prefer a public road. He wondered about access to his parent’s property and future development.
Staff said the road wouldn’t impact access or future plans for the family’s property.
Committee members voted in favour of the rezoning and Mayor Carolyn Parrish praised the development.
“This is the best kind of gentle infill you can do, it’s very nice, it’s in keeping with the neighbourhood,” said Parrish.
