In light of the significant snowfall occuring today, the City of Brampton has declared this afternoon (Feb. 27) a Significant Weather Event, which will be continuing until further notice.

As a result of this declaration, anyone using the roads and sidewalks in the city are advised to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel.

Service levels have also been increased, and all roads, sidewalks, transit stops, crosswalks and trails are expected to be maintained within 48 hours after the end of the snowfall.

Crews salt and plow primary roads, in the event of a weather declaration, such as main roads that carry high volumes of traffic or a Brampton Transit/Züm route.

Residential streets are then plowed after, which include streets that have at least 7.5 cm (3 inches) of snow fall in a single storm.

Crews then plow sand recreational trails in parks, and sidewalks that are on a primary road, on a Brampton Transit/Züm bus route, in front of a City park or facility behind your property, or curb-faced (no grass boulevard between the sidewalk and road).

Once cleanup is complete, residents can call 311 or email [email protected] to request service for areas they believe require follow-up.

UPDATE: 

The city reports that Brampton Animal Shelter will be closed at 4 p.m., and Gage Park, Chinguacousy Park, and Mount Pleasant skating rinks will close at 4 p.m. as well. 

Recreation programs are running as scheduled.
