Significant snowfall warning in effect for southern Ontario

The snow is not over for southern Ontario just yet.

The special weather statement is in effect in the following areas:

  • Mississauga
  • Brampton
  • Toronto
  • Halton Region
  • Hamilton
  • Niagara Region
  • Durham Region

There will be between 5 to 10 cm of snow, with locally higher amounts possible.

There will be reduced visibility in areas of heavier snow.

The snow will begin on Friday morning and ending Friday night.

Light snow is expected to begin Friday morning but should intensify late in the afternoon or evening. The snow should taper off from west to east late Friday night.

The exact snowfall amounts at this point will vary, although many areas may receive 5 to 10 cm of snow. Note that even higher amounts are possible for areas near Lake Ontario.

There is also a risk of freezing rain on Friday evening in areas near Lake Erie.

The snow may have a significant impact on the evening commute in more urban areas.

Winter weather travel advisories and snowfall warnings may be issued for some areas as the event draws nearer.
