A driver on a major Mississauga highway got shock when a shovel flew into their windshield this week.

The OPP posted a photo of the damaged Porsche with the shovel still embedded in the windshield on Tuesday. Fortunately, the rusty, old shovel did not hit the occupant or occupants of the vehicle but it could have been much worse.

“This is the result when you don’t secure your cargo. Could have been fatal!,” OPP tweeted.

The incident happened in the eastbound lanes of Hwy. 403 near Mavis Rd. on Monday (June 20) around 11 a.m., OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt tells insauga.com.

“We don’t know where it came from or who dropped it off,” Schmidt says. “But it was sitting there, got kicked up by another vehicle and it went through the windshield of this other vehicle.”

The driver was uninjured and was able to safely pull off the highway, he says.

There are no suspects or further information about the incident but it is a reminder to always secure your load and never leave items on the side of the highway.

Fellow drivers agree.

“…whenever I see a landscape truck, a pickup with a crazy load or a vehicle with a canow, bikes, or Thule I get as far away as I can,” wrote one person in response to the terrifying OPP photo. “Too many people haven’t a clue how to load or secure a load.”
