Shot fired outside U.S. consulate in Toronto

Police in Toronto say they are investigating a shooting near the U.S. consulate early Monday morning.

They say officers in the area heard a firearm discharge near the U.S. consulate on University Avenue at 4:46 a.m.

Police say officers found evidence of the firearm discharge outside the consulate building.

They say a white sedan vehicle was seen fleeing the area. Police did not have a suspect description.

No injuries were reported.

Southbound University Avenue was closed at Dundas Street for vehicles and pedestrians, police said.

This is the second time shots were fired at the consulate this year.

On March 10, two people allegedly fired multiple shots at the building before driving away in a stolen vehicle. Const. Marc Pinizzotto, 43, was fatally shot while officers were carrying out a search related to the investigation.

Police had arrested 18-year-old Sheldon Tracy-Stewart and 19-year-old Zara Jabbi last month and charged them with multiple charges related to the shooting.

It is not clear yet if the two shootings are connected.
