In an effort to help keep Ontario a global leader when it comes to vaccination rates, Shoppers Drug Mart announced it will be having a “Vax-A-Thon” this weekend.

On July 24, all locations across Ontario that are open 24 hours per day will be participating, with the goal of administering as many vaccines as possible over the course of the event.

The event was conceived due to the fact some residents have struggled to get an appointment due to a conflict of schedules—administering vaccinations over the course of a 24-hour period will allow those who would otherwise not be able to get vaccinated to do so.

The event will be walk-in appointments only, and those interested in finding a participating location near them can do so online.

Over the course of the event, participating pharmacies will be offering the Moderna vaccine.

“Ontarians have stepped up in droves over the past few months to be vaccinated against COVID-19, many of them in our stores. But we know there’s still a gap, particularly with those aged 18-29, and some of that stems from access and availability,” Sarah Ahmad, senior vice president of Health and Wellness for Shoppers Drug Mart, said in a news release.

“For 24 hours, our stores will host walk-in appointments for first or second shots, on a first-come, first served basis.  We know there’s still demand, and we want to continue to be part of the solution,” she continued.
