Shoppers Drug Mart Inc. is providing testing for asymptomatic individuals in Ontario.

As of Monday (May 17), Ontarians can get a rapid antigen test from any Shoppers Drug Mart and Loblaw pharmacy in the province.

The tests can determine if an individual is infected with the virus, but asymptomatic, by identifying antigens, which are proteins found on a virus’ surface, and results are normally available in 15 to 20 minutes.

“To get through this pandemic, we all need to follow public health guidelines, get vaccinated, and continue testing and screening in order to stop the spread of COVID-19,” Ashesh Desai, executive vice president of Pharmacy and Healthcare for Shoppers Drug Mart, said in a news release.

“As Ontario and Alberta begin their recovery from this third wave of COVID-19, rapid screening options can provide customers with an extra level of confidence,” he continued.

The tests are conducted at the pharmacy, and those who want to get tested are encouraged to call the pharmacy to book an appointment in advance.
