Shoplifting call ends in identity fraud, theft and drug charges for Brampton pair

Two people from Brampton are facing over a dozen combined fraud, theft and drug charges after an alleged shoplifting incident near Guelph on the weekend.

Shortly before 12:00 a.m. on Saturday (May 6), the OPP say officers from the Wellington County detachment were called to a store on Tower St. South in Fergus, approximately 22 kilometres north of Guelph.

Police say they received a complaint about shoplifting and when officers arrived they arrested two people from Bramtpton and another from North York.

Police recovered fake money, drugs, credit cards, and IDs among other items during the investigation and laid over a dozen charges related to identity fraud, theft and drugs.

Simardeep Singh Garcha, 43, of Brampton has been charged with:

  • Theft Under $5000 – Shoplifting
  • Possession of an Identity Document (two counts)
  • Possession of a Credit Card and Personation with Intention to Avoid Arrest, Prosecution or Obstruct Justice – Identity Fraud (seven counts)

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on June 27, 2023. None of the allegations have been proven in court.

Rajwinder Singh Mann, 53, of Brampton has been charged with:

  • Possessing Counterfeit Money
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice -inGuelph on June 30. None of the allegations have been proven in court.

Harjoban Singh Mannan, 23, of North York has been charged with:

  • Theft Under $5000 – Shoplifting

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on June 30. None of the allegations have been proven in court.
