Shop transformed in Mississauga for highly anticipated movie

A shop in Mississauga has been transformed into a bookstore and coffee shop for the filming of Beach Read.

The romance, based on Emily Henry’s bestselling novel of the same name, stars Patrick Schwarzenegger (White Lotus), son of actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Phoebe Dynevor of Bridgerton fame, and is directed by Yulin Kuang.

Henry’s books have become massively popular across TikTok and BookTok over the last few years, making this one of the more anticipated romance adaptations currently in production.⁠

The story follows Augustus Everett (Schwarzenegger), an acclaimed author of literary fiction, and January Andrews (Dynevor), who writes bestselling romance novels.

Struggling with writer’s block, the pair strike a deal to write in each other’s genres. Augustus will spend the summer writing a happy romance, and January will pen a serious literary novel.

Filming started on June 1 with locations in Toronto, Niagara and Mississauga.

New social media posts show the store at 228 Queen St. S. in Streetsville, transformed into “Pete’s Bookstore + Coffee.” The shop is home to The Littlest Gift Boutique, which has noted on their website that they are closed for filming from June 22 to July 21.

The film also stars well-known actors Kevin Bacon, Andie MacDowell, Kristin Davis and Tig Notaro.

Filming is set to wrap up on July 22, according to Ontario Creates.

It is set to be released in theatres by 20th Century Studios on May 7, 2027.
