The film, which released in June of 2018, tells the story of a lonely Chinese mother who gets an unexpected second chance at motherhood when one of her homemade dumplings comes to life.
“As Dumpling grows, however, the inevitable conflicts between parent and child arise and Mom must acknowledge that no one stays little forever,” according to the film’s synopsis on the official Oscars website.
29 year old Shi has been with Pixar since 2011 and has worked on some of their biggest films, including Inside Out, Incredibles 2, and the upcoming Toy Story 4.
Domee Shi: "We’re so happy Bao was embraced by the Academy and the world. Two more amazing shorts by female directors have just come out from Pixar as well. Bao blazed a trail and we’re happy to be the first of many."
