Update: The shelter-in-place was lifted as of 11:45 a.m., the Ontario Provincial Police said.

Police said one person has been taken into custody.

Original story follows.

A shelter-in-place was issued after reports came in of a possibly armed person in an Ontario park.

The armed person was reportedly in Little Lake Park in Midland, the Ontario Provincial Police said on X.

Midland is about 50 kilometres north of Barrie, on the shores of Georgian Bay. Little Lake Park is the largest community park in the town.

Members of the public at or near Little Lake Park are asked to seek shelter immediately in a secure location, the OPP said.

People should lock all doors and windows, and close curtains or blinds to avoid drawing attention.

Do not approach or engage with anyone suspicious, the OPP said.

Call 911 immediately if you see or encounter the suspect.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area and should not pick up hitchhikers.

People not currently in the park are asked to avoid travelling to the area until further notice.

An increased police presence can be expected while officers continue their response and investigation.

Further information will be released as it becomes available.
