Police say as of 11:50 a.m., the shelter-in-place advisory has been lifted following an earlier incident near Highway 11. A heavy police presence remains in the area as the investigation continues.

A major police investigation has forced the closure of Highway 11 in both directions north of Orillia, creating significant traffic disruptions on the morning of Canada Day.

For those already caught in traffic, police advise staying in your vehicle with the doors locked.
According to an update posted to X , the highway is currently closed between Severn River Road and Coopers Falls Road and between Canning Road and Graham Road.

There are reports that OPP is currently searching for two individuals who are considered suspicious in connection with the ongoing investigation.
