Sexual assault of girl, 16, leads to charge against Mississauga man

A Mississauga man has been charged after a 16-year-old girl was allegedly  sexually assaulted while walking near a major intersection in the east end of the city.

Investigators from the Peel Regional Police Special Victims Unit say the incident is believed to have taken place on Sept. 24 as the girl was walking in the area of Dixie Road and Bloor Street.

According to police, the girl “was approached by (a man) who engaged her in conversation and later forced her into sexual activity.”

Police add that the girl did not sustain any physical injuries.

One day later, police arrested a man in connection with the assault.

Sharrujan Rangan, 24, of Mississauga, is charged with one count of sexual assault. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Investigators say there may be additional victims and are urging them to come forward.
