Sex assault charge for social worker at a shelter in Brampton

Police have charged a social worker after allegedly sexually assaulting and exposing himself to someone staying at a local shelter.

The assault happened on Nov. 17 while the victim was staying at a shelter in Brampton, Peel Regional Police said in a statement.

It’s alleged a 41-year-old social worker employed at the shelter “sexually assaulted and exposed himself to the victim.”

Nearly two months after the incident police say a 41-year-old man from Brampton was arrested and charged with multiple offences.

Peel Regional Police have charged Gairy Stephens, 41, of Brampton has been charged with one count each of sexual assault and indecent act in a public place.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on Feb. 12.

Investigators believe there may have been more incidents and police are urging victims to come forward.
