Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for Hamilton, large hailstones expected

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Hamilton.
Meteorologists are tracking severe thunderstorms that are developing over Michigan and expected to move eastward into Ontario later this morning or early afternoon (April 5).
The storm could produce wind gusts nearing 90 km/h and hail the size of ping pong balls.
“As the Great Lakes are very cold, at this time there is a great deal of uncertainty as to how strong these thunderstorms will be as they cross into Ontario,” says the statement issued by Environment Canada.
“Should the cold temperatures of the lakes be overcome, a strong line of thunderstorms is expected with strong wind gusts and large hail.”
Residents are advised to take cover when stormy weather approaches, especially as the hail can damage property and cause injuries.
Thunderstorms are expected to move east of the area early this evening.
