Thunderstorm warning Mississauga

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon.

Meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing heavy rain and flash floods.

The thunderstorm is located over northern Brampton and southern Caledon region and ECCC says it is nearly stationary.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

The most immediate hazard for residents is heavy rainfall expected in amounts of up to 50 mm per hour.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on vehicle headlights and maintain a safe following distance. Avoid driving through water on roads.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that residents in the area take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
