There were seven new cases of COVID-19 reported today (August 11) by Niagara Health, a slight drop from the nine reported yesterday but still much higher than a three-day stretch last week when only single cases were reported daily.

With just two cases resolved, that left the active case count in Niagara at 53.

Once again, a large percentage of existing cases (62.5 per cent) have been listed as “likely” the Delta variant.

Over the course of the pandemic, 16,388 cases have been reported in Niagara. From that number, 95.7 per cent recovered at home, 3.7 per cent were admitted to hospital while 0.6 per cent were admitted to the ICU.

There have been 420 COVID-19 deaths in Niagara since the pandemic began in March 2020.
