After several days of low single-digit new COVID-19 cases, Niagara Region edged upwards today (July 15) with seven new cases.

However, the Region is still in the enviable position that resolved cases are passing by any new cases in larger numbers as today Niagara Health said there were only 66 active cases listed today, the lowest number in all of 2021.

Niagara has seen 16,297 cases since the pandemic began in March 2021, resulting in 417 deaths.

Every new case was listed by the health unit as likely the Delta variant.

Even though many are still afraid to go out into the community, that has only resulted in 27.6 per cent of the cases. The likeliest way of catching COVID-19 is overwhelmingly contact with a confirmed case at 66.1 per cent.
