It was a relatively quiet weekend in the Niagara Region for new COVID-19 cases as four were reported Saturday (August 7) and three more were added Sunday.

That came after a surprise spike of 11 new cases on Friday (August 6), the first time since July 2 that double-digit numbers had been reported in the region.

The Delta variant is still the leader of the various COVID-19 strains with it being suspected in over 57 per cent of the existing cases (total of 55) in Niagara.

Wainfleet is now listed as the only municipality in Niagara with zero cases with Fort Erie and Port Colborne close behind at one each. St Catharines is leading on the top of the list with 11 existing cases, followed by Grimsby and Niagara Falls with eight cases each.
