The chase for a Niagara Falls man suspected in a stabbing incident ended on the Toronto-bound lanes of the QEW early today (July 5) after seven hours of negotiation with the wanted man.

After being called to a July 4 disturbance in Niagara Falls near Jubilee Dr. and Redhaven Cres. at 6:10 pm, Niagara police found a victim, a woman in her 20s, suffering from a serious stab wound.

She was taken to a local hospital and then subsequently airlifted to an out-of-region hospital.

According to police, witnesses said the suspect fled in a car onto the Toronto-bound QEW, where near the top of the Garden City Skyway, he was involved in a crash.

Seeing the suspect attempt to flee on foot, the police sealed off both sides of the highway.

The stand-off continued until police negotiators convinced a man to surrender. An arrest was made at the scene.

Charged is Aaron Acton, 37, of St. Catharines with one count of criminal harassment and one count of attempted murder.

Eventually, the QEW Niagara-bound was reopened at 2:25 am this morning while the Toronto-bound lanes followed suit at 3:40 am.
