Carissa MacDonald, 27, of Stoney Creek, and Aaron Stone, 28, of Hamilton, died from the shootings in Stoney Creek on May 27, 2023.

Family and friends will tomorrow (June 10) celebrate the lives of a Hamilton couple killed in what police believe to be a landlord-tenant dispute.

The family of Carissa MacDonald, 27, and her fiance Aaron Stone, 28, announced in an obituary that a service of remembrance and celebration of the couple will be held on Saturday, June 10 at Marquis Gardens in Hamilton.

Friends and family members say the couple has left a loving legacy and that many have felt their tragic loss.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a children’s charity or the SPCA.

Police believe the victims were shot dead by their landlord on May 27 after they had argued about living conditions in the basement apartment they rented at 322 Jones Rd. in Stoney Creek. The landlord died in a shootout with police. The investigations by Hamilton police and the province’s Special Investigations Unit are ongoing.

MacDonald’s aunt and uncle, David and Angele MacDonald, have organized a GoFundMe campaign, which as of June 9 attracted 224 donations and raised $31,612, surpassing its $5,000 goal. The page said the funds will help the family with expenses, namely funeral costs.

“They were such family-oriented people who were so full of life and love,” their family said in a statement released through police on June 1.
