The city is rolling out a pair of red-carpet-worthy events to honour local filmmakers including an award-winning addition to Brampton’s Arts Walk of Fame.

Brampton actor and filmmaker Vinay Virmani is the final inductee to the Arts Walk of Fame for 2024, joining dozens of actors, authors and artists from Brampton including Rupi Kaur, Russell Peters and Denise Jones.

Studying at New York’s Lee Strasberg Institute, Virmani’s work has a focus on telling Canadian and Brampton stories, like WICK: The Hayley Wickenheiser Story (a documentary about the Brampton-born Olympic hockey champion) and Superfan: The Nav Bhatia Story (following the Toronto Raptor’s super fan’s inspiring journey to becoming a local celebrity).

But Brampton film fans will be able to see the local filmmaker step in front of the camera at a special screening of his film “Breakaway” and a ceremony celebrating his addition to the Walk of Fame.

“With a diverse portfolio spanning acting, producing and writing, Vinay has solidified himself as a multifaceted and dedicated creative and producer,” the city said of Virmani’s work.

Brampton filmmaker Vinay Virmani has been added to the Arts Walk of Fame for 2024.

A partner and CCO at Uninterrupted Canada and founder of First Take Entertainment, Virmani says the partnerships have allowed him “to connect global audiences with captivating narratives that transcend cultural barriers.”

“Diversity and diverse stories are synonymous with Brampton,” Virmani said. “I hope that my induction into the Arts Walk of Fame is a source of inspiration for other creators from diverse backgrounds to continue pursuing their passions in the arts and empower them to keep telling their stories.”

The day after the screening and ceremony marks National Film Day and the city is keeping the excitement rolling with a showcase of film talent living in Brampton with the third-annual Brampton Arts Organization Film Screening & Networking Night.

The evening will feature 10 films and videos created by Brampton filmmakers with a chance for creatives to get feedback and network with others in the industry. The free public screening is for anyone in Brampton who works in film or video arts, content as well as fans looking to discover up-and-coming talent from Brampton.
