Secret viral slushy shop now open at the back of a jewelry store in Toronto

A secret hidden slushy shop is now opening for the season, and it’s tucked away in one of the most unexpected places: the back of a jewelry store in Toronto.

Armed has long been one of Toronto’s best local jewelry stores for all kinds of sparkly finds from everyday to high end gems.

It might seem surprising that the owner of a jewelry store would want to start serving slushies out of the back of their shop, but last summer the Diet Coke slushies at Armed went totally viral for the unique environment where they were being served.

The slushies are also presented in an eye-catching way, the Diet Coke slushies served in a Diet Coke can piled high with delicious sugary slush.

The best part about jewelry store Armed bringing back their slushies for the summer season is that they’re adding brand new flavours to the lineup, including some surprises.

“We are currently doing a pina colada, matcha/matcha strawberry slushy and a rotating monthly flavour,” Armed owner Desiree Girlato tells INsauga.com.

“At this time our focus is just slushies. We’ve been getting lots of people asking for the DC Slushy to come back so we thought we’d bring that back plus a couple new ones to try out.”

At Armed on Dundas Street West, they’re currently offering the Diet Coke slushy for $3.80, a matcha slushy for $7 (to which you can add strawberry for a dollar), and a summery pina colada slushy for $6.50.

“We do small batch and premium ingredients like organic milks and 100 per cent juices not from concentrate,” says Girlato.

But wait, there’s more: there are actually plans to make the slushy shop a full-fledged standalone operation of its own, so if you’ve been loving the slushies at Armed, they may soon have a dedicated home. They already have a name for the concept at the back of the Armed jewelry store: Hank’s Slushies.

“It’s my son’s name and I really wanted it to have a laidback west coast surfer vibe,” says Girlato. “Hank’s is a very seasonal offering so our plan would be to open a standalone location for next summer.”

When it comes to where that standalone slushy shop might be located, Girlato says “we would love to stay in the neighbourhood.”
