Second person charged in collision that left one person dead in Hamilton

The incident happened on the evening of Wednesday, June 3, when a 19 year old male was driving westbound on Airport Road in a 2016 Honda Civic with three passengers.

“The Honda entered the intersection and struck a 2011 Ford Escape driven by a 41-year-old male, travelling northbound on Nebo Road,” said police. “The occupants from both vehicles were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.”

One female passenger in the Honda succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.

A joint investigation between Hamilton Police and the Niagara Regional Collision Reconstruction Unit resulted in criminal charges being laid against the driver of the Honda.

19 year old Hamilton man Bulend Dikici was charged with Criminal Negligence causing Death, three counts of Criminal Negligence causing Bodily Harm, and Novice Driver-Blood Alcohol Concentration above Zero.

After continued investigation, the other driver in the collision is now also facing charges.

41 year old Hamilton man Saleem Kirchel is charged with Impaired Operation of a motor vehicle and Impaired Operation while Blood Alcohol Concentration exceeds 80mg.
